OMG…. Why Does Every Doctor Say, “Now You’re Over 40”?
Why do doctors always start with, “Now you’re over 40”? Seriously, give it a rest! Sure, I might be over 40, but I’m still young at heart.
It all began when I hit the big 4-0. I was about 40 and a week old, if that. I’ve worn glasses most of my life, and my prescription has always changed a bit, but nothing too wild. If I were living in the 70s, I’d be sporting those thick coke bottle glasses. I’m not vain, but I do spend a pretty penny to make my lenses look less nerdy.
Anyway, my eyes naturally got worse. During my regular eye check-up, they ran me through the usual battery of machines – blowing air in my eyes, staring at dots and letters. Then the optometrist, looking at my results, says, “Now that you’re 40, you’ll notice your eyesight will decline more. You should consider bifocals.”
Just like that, I swear my glasses doubled in price. Hmmm… it just hit me that my age had turned into a sales pitch. Years of experience in sales and he played me like a violin.
But it didn’t end there. At my yearly dentist appointment, I heard it again, “Now you’re over 40…”
What is it with doctors thinking that just because I’m over 40, my body thinks it’s 40? My mind is still in its 20s!
Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse, I figured I’d seen all the doctors there were to see. But of course, there are always specialists. This time, it was a double whammy. While debating day surgery, the specialist says, “Now you’re over 40…” and he didn’t stop there. He adds, “When you’re going through menopause…”
My reaction? “What the f… I am not going through menopause.”
His response? “Of course you’re not.” For the record, “I AM NOT.”
First time I’ve sworn at a doctor, I think. I don’t usually react well to people and tend to say whatever’s on my mind out loud.
It’s not something I’d normally say to a doctor, but seriously, he deserved that.
If you’re a doctor reading this, do not assume just because someone is over 40 that they’re falling apart. And never assume someone is going through menopause without any signs.
So, can you all just stop it? Thanks!
My life Motto… Your only as old as you feel and my age varies between 21-32.
Here are 10 Things I Do to Feel Young
- Dance Whenever I Can
Dancing is my ultimate mood booster. Whether it’s a quick boogie in the kitchen or a full-blown dance session in the living room, it always lifts my spirits and no matter how old I get I love a night out dancing with my friends. - Create Playlists on Spotify
I have multiple playlists for different moods and occasions. Music has a way of making me feel alive and energised, so I keep my playlists updated with my favourite tunes. - Use Essential Oils
Aromatherapy is a game-changer. I love using essential oils to create a calming environment. I’ve been using Doterra oils for nearly 14 years now and started when my young girls was born. She was sick all the time and helped then and and now. I use them in every part of my life. - Eat Healthy
What we put into our bodies has a huge impact on how we feel. I focus on a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to keep me feeling vibrant and healthy. It’s hard to stick with it I know but when you get off track just jump back on. It’s okay if you fall off. - Listen to Your Body
Our bodies are always sending us signals. I’ve learned to listen and respond. If I’m tired, I rest. If I need to move, I exercise. This helps me stay in tune with my needs and maintain my energy levels. My life is a mess and as I said above if you fall off that track, just jump back on. - Stop Fighting It
Acceptance is key. Instead of fighting against what my body needs, I go with the flow. If my body says no to something, I respect that and adjust accordingly. - Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is crucial. It keeps my skin looking fresh, my body feeling good, and my mind sharp. - Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Taking time to meditate or simply be mindful helps reduce stress and keeps me grounded. It’s a great way to connect with myself and find inner peace. - Stay Active
Regular exercise is a must. Whether it’s a morning jog, yoga session, or a walk in the park, staying active keeps me feeling young and energetic. And when life gets hard just do what you can. That could me light stretches in bed in the morning and at night. - Maintain a Positive Attitude
Positivity can make a world of difference. I focus on the good things in life and try to maintain an optimistic outlook, which helps me stay youthful in spirit.
Incorporating these habits into my daily routine helps me stay feeling young and vibrant. Give them a try and see how they work for you!
